Great quotes - stupidity

“We have nothing against the job of garbage collectors, but their sons belong in other fields than the judiciary, because it’s a sensitive job”

"Justice" Ahmed Abdelrahman.

The subject? In Egypt "... officials refused to reinstate dozens of young prosecutors who were sacked because their parents lacked a university education.  Just months after they were appointed, 138 new prosecutors were removed from office in September 2013 following a ruling from the judiciary’s governing body that said only those born to parents with undergraduate degrees could join the state prosecution..."

The esteemed "Justice" (his picture is above) is apparently "... a senior judge and former member of the board that banned the prosecutors..." who "... said the decision was aimed at upholding the quality of the judiciary..."

Great quotes - voting

“Anybody who does not vote is giving the kiss of life to the terrorists. Those who do not come out are traitors, traitors, traitors who are selling out this country.”

Quick update...

The July 15th, 2008 blog entry, 'La nouvelle union,' commented on the inaugural meeting of the new UPM (Union Pour la Mediterranée), or Mediterranean Union. At the time this blogger wondered why the French felt that they would be able to 'run' the 43-member organization, and if the bizarre hand-shake between Sarkozy and Mubarak (see above) would end up being more of a 'bras de fer' between the two...

Fast forward approximately sixteen months and all is not so well... Egypt has caused the cancellation of next month's meeting in Istanbul of the Foreign Ministers from the 43 members, and an European Union diplomat has said, "We are risking the death of the Mediterranean Union just after being born. The Union is in complete shambles and no progress has been made since its launch, both on the structure of the organisation and its seat." Quelle surprise (not)!

What generosity!

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak pardoned a newspaper editor who had been sentenced to jail for "... publishing false information about the president..." thereby causing harm to the country's economy. The paper had speculated on the state of Mubarak's health. According to the Middle East News Service, MENA, "... as part of the president's efforts to foster freedom of the press in Egypt..."

What generosity of spirit! This after Mubarak earlier fingered "illegitimate movements" (i.e. the Muslim Brotherhood) for spreading the rumors, and while his wife, first lady Suzanne Mubarak, appeared on TV to say said that journalists who published rumors deserved to be punished. And has on the books laws that allow this, and pliant courts that enforce them.. What a democrat!
