Boogie Board quick look

Meet the Boogie Board, by iMPROV Electronics... A "... paperless LCD Writing Tablet..." Size: 8.8" x 5.6" x 1/8" thick. Weight: 4.2 ounces. Very simple and a more modern version of the 'Etch-a-Sketch' - you write a note on it with the included stylus, which can then be wiped by pressing a button. It only uses energy when wiping, and is rated for approximately 50,000 erases. Eventually the battery will die and you'll have to toss it out because the battery can not be swapped out...

No, it can't save, though this supposedly will be available in a future version. It's simple and does exactly what it is designed for. Who says technology has to be complex?

You can see some of the electronic circuitry through the back...

Great quotes

“I am very proud to do God’s work... No one is afraid of me. I have a lot of relatives, and many friends at the mosque, and I live a normal life like everyone else... I deal with my family with kindness and love. They aren’t afraid when I come back from an execution. Sometimes they help me clean my sword... It’s a gift from the government. I look after it and sharpen it once in a while, and I make sure to clean it of bloodstains.”

- Saudi executioner Muhamed Saad Al-Beshi, see "Chop Chop Square".... So far this year "... the kingdom has executed at least 27 people this year. That’s equal to the total number put to death in all of 2010..."

A blast from the past

Today I dug out of the closet and dusted off a venerable HP 200lx. The PDA I used daily from 1995 to 2003, the gold standard of PDAs which was ahead of everything available at the time... This may date me, but I remember the excitement when I purchased and received my first PCMCIA card back then... a 8 MB card that cost in the region of six or seven hundred dollars!

With a UMID M1, a Zaurus SL-C3000, and a Dell Streak:

So, am going to try and use the HP 200lx for a while and see how it goes. Not for connectivity-related applications (e-mail, browsing, Twitter, etc.), for which I'll use my BB Torch, but for database, note-taking, etc. Stay tuned!
